Acer, from the Aceraceae family, include small and medium-sized trees and shrubs suited to acid soils. All species have decorative leaves and insignificant flowers, some of which are melliferous. The Acer palmatum group bear decorative deciduous leaves. Ideally positioned in shade or semi-shade, sheltered from north winds, they work well planted with Azaleas, Rhododendrons and Hydrangeas. Dwarf varieties can be grown in containers on patios and terraces. At Minier we have a large range of Japanese Maples, known for their spectacular appearance and vigorous growth.
