Loropetalum is a member of the Hamamelidaceae family. These are small evergreen shrubs with decorative foliage ranging from green to purple-black, depending on the variety. It has a rounded or flared shape and its original-looking flowers resemble those of Hamamelis or Witch hazel, white or scarlet red in colour, appearing in February-March. Suited to acid soil, light and well-drained in a sheltered position.
