As a large shrub or small tree, it is compact and vigorous with a rounded summit and elegant drooping branches. The palmed leaves are delicately and deeply cut, light green in spring, emerald-green in summer, and orangey-red in autumn. The bark is green and lightly streaked with cream. Will tolerate sun in a cool soil. In hot climates, plant preferably in the shade. Prefers a rich, fresh and well drained soil, not too chalky.
