Chitalpa is a member of the Bignoniaceae family. Tashkentensis Summer Bell in particular, is a hybrid of Catalpa and Chilopsis. This hardy tree can be trained into tufts form 3 to 4 metres high. Its deciduous foliage is adorned with large bell-shaped violet flowers from June to July. Its flower returns in September and resembles that of Catalpa. Chitalpa is best planted as a specimen as a shade tree or grouped with shrubs in an island bed or informal hedge.
