Rhododendron belongs to the Ericaceae family. This genus consists of over 800 species, including Azalea. Species of Rhododendron are distinctive from each other in its dimensions, its form, its flower size and its bearing. They require well-aerated acid soil, in shade or semi-shade. They require pruning to keep them to the desired dimensions, which must be done after flowering for all species. There are multiple uses for Rhododendron: isolated in a rockery, in a lawn or in front of the house, in planting schemes with other acid-loving plants, or in containers.
