Leucothoe is a member of the Ericaceae family. Its young red branches and its red-purple evergreen foliage are particularly decorative. Its white flowers appear in May, held in short hanging bunches on the previous year’s shoots. It prefers acid soil and can be grown as a specimen in rockeries, in groups on a shady bank or a border of undergrowth or with other acid-loving plants. Leucothoe is also suitable for container-growing.
