Davidia is a member of the Nyssaceae family. Davidia involucrata, or Handkerchief Tree, is a variety which resembles a Lime tree, exhibiting hardiness and strong growth. This tree has a rounded crown and bears heart-shaped leaves, nut-type fruits in autumn and very unique flowers: from May to June: each of its small insignificant flowers is enveloped by two large bracts of unequal size, which resemble handkerchiefs attached to the branches. The flowers grow on the previous year’s wood and only once the tree has reached 10 years of age.
