Taxodium is a memeber of the Cupressaceae family. This genus includes deciduous conifers whose leaves resemble those of ferns and are golden-yellow or orange-brown in autumn. Taxodium is well-suited to wet or marshy soils, where with age it can develop adapted roots, called pneumatophores, beneath the surface of the water, which allow the plant to respire. It can be grown as a specimen in parks and large spaces, near a water course or pool.
