Ulmus or Elm belongs to the Ulmaceae family. Ulmus resista in particulier is very resistant to atmospheric pollution. The common Elm has disappeared from the countryside, destroyed by Dutch Elm disease, although resistant new strains Wada and Lutece are now available. Their light green deciduous foliage turns to yellow in autumn. It grows in ordinary soil and tolerates pruning or trimming. They can be grown in informal, rustic or trimmed hedges, or as sparse coppices.
