A tree made popular by its fruit (‘Conkers’ in the UK) and associated with public places and avenues, Aesculus (horse chestnut) belongs to the Hippocastanaceae family. Its matt dark green deciduous leaves and its rounded or oval crown makes it ideal for providing shade. Its white or pink flowers, depending on the species, announce the arrival of summer. It can grow up to 20 metres in height, making it indispensable in parks and great gardens, either as a specimen or planted in avenues.
