Salix, or Willow, belongs to the Salicaceae family. Its branches can be red, red-brown, yellow or green. Its deciduous foliage is sometimes decorative, sometimes twisted. This genus includes Salix viminalis, or Withy, used for basket-making or rustic trellis-work known as hurdles. The male catkins are very decorative, with yellow anthers from the start of spring. Melliferous flowers. It grows in ordinary to rocky soil, but most of all it flourishes in wet areas of land.
