Cupressocyparis or Leyland Cypress belongs to the Cupressaceae family. The leylandii species is a hybrid of Cupressus macrocarpa and Chamaecyparis nootkatensis. It combines the rapid growth of the first with the graceful stature and hardiness of the second. Grown in isolation, the Leyland Cypress has a conical form and can reach 3 metres in height in 5 years. It can be grown as tall or medium hedges, or to provide a screen of greenery. It is very resistant to pollution and salt winds, and can tolerate severe and repeated pruning, re-growing from old wood.
