Cercis or Judas Tree is a genus of the Fabaceae family. Commonly found in French gardens, this small deciduous tree, generally branched from the base, is remarkable for its spring blossom in April, before the leaves appear, and for its abundant decorative foliage. Ideal for small spaces, it looks attractive when grown as a single specimen in rockery, alone in a lawn or grouped with other smaller shrubs. There are many selections with coloured leaves and of compact habit adapted for small gardens. L Cercis Canadensis is very frost resistant.
