Sassafras belongs to the Lauraceae family. Albidum in particular, is a small tree which bears dark green deciduous foliage becoming red to orange-yellow in autumn. Its leaves give off a citrus scent when rubbed. Its flowers appear in May-June for subjects older than 10 years of age. Sassafras is ideally planted in the background of garden planting schemes, for its autumn colour, as a specimen or in association.
