Coming from the 'Bloodgood' variety, it is smaller and more compact. Erect bearing becoming rounder with age. Leaves are bright red in spring, dark purple in summer and return to a bright red colour in autumn. Granted the 'Award of Garden Merit' by the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society, England).
