Small male tree with long and flexible reddish brown branches. They are downy when younger and can droop to the ground level. It produces very decorative yellow flowers in male catkins in February-March. They are abundantly carried by the bare wood. Its slightly serrated dark green foliage is 8 to 10 cm long and has light green underside. It turns yellow in autumn.
