Very hardy, fast-growing and native shrub that spreads thanks to its suckers. It has dense and thorny entwined branches. It is often used as a defesinve hedge or a hedgerow. Its small, perfumed white and melliferous flowers appear before the leaves in March-April. Its astringent and acrid blue-black fruits are used for liquor and brandies. It tolerates heat and dry conditions as well as any type of soils.
