A large shrub, then a small pyramidal branching tree with huge flowers, up to 25cm, of a dark burgundy red with bright pink highlights. The flowers appear in April before the leaves, accompany the young, soft green leaves in May, and then come up a bit during the summer. Ideal in beds, as a stand-alone plant or in containers.
