A tree in its native range, it often takes the shape of a small tree or a suckering shrub in our climates. Slow-growing, upright in the early years, it spreads out with age. The outstanding bronzed foliage in spring turns dark green in summer, orange-yellow and red in autumn (red to purple on the side of the sun). Its leaves of mixed shape and irregular lobes, have a lemongrass scent when crumpled. Fairly deep soils, non calcareous, preferably cool and sheltered by other trees.
