Synonym: 'Schwedleri Nigrum'; 'Goldsworth Purple'. Tree forming a wide purple column with an oval crown. Beautiful yellow flowering before the leaves. Hardy and robust, resistant to pollution. Any type of soil, even chalky. Can grow to over 8 m tall with age. Seedlings of the variety 'Schwedleri' selected at Tips Brothers in Herk de stadt (Belgium) in 1937. The variety 'Faassen's Black' comes from the same seedling. Distributed by Barbier and Son nurseries in Orléans (FR) around 1946.
