Chamaerops or fan palm is a member of the Arecaeae family. Excelsa in particular, can reach up to 6 to 8 metres in height in a favourable situation, on the Mediterranean and south-west coasts. It can tolerate temperatures as low as -15°. The palm grows in ordinary soil in a sunny position. It can be planted as a specimen or in rows, as well as in a container which will restrict its growth.
